Which was worse? Life during the Cold War or life during 2012.
Living
in the United States now in 2012 is more stressful and under pressure
than it was during the Cold War. The Cuban Missile crisis, dropping
of the Atomic bomb, and threats of Intercontinental Ballistic
Missiles would have been very dangerous, but never happened. Events
such as the United States debt, the war in Afghanistan, and teenage
cyber-bullying are all read and happening now.
Debt
The United States debt is at $15,228,011,560 and still rising. As a result the economy is so bad and prices of gas and about everything else keeps going up. Businesses and companies are having to let employees go or cut pay because they are losing money as well. Therefore when people don't have money to buy the goods they need, especially when prices are going up, homes are being lost and people are going hungry. War
Over
8,000 people had to worry about a son, daughter, parent, or somebody
they knew not coming home from the war. “6,331 U.S. Service members
have died in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom”¹
4474 were killed in Iraq and 1857 were killed in Afghanistan. On the
other hand The Cuban missile crisis may have had this many deaths but
never happened or killed one person. Nevertheless, the war in Iraq
has been going on for 12 years and has killed thousands of people.
Cyber-bullying
Cyber-bullying has taken many kids off the face of the Earth. Back during the Cold War this wasn't something a child had to deal with. Cyber-bullying is when somebody is bullying you over the internet, through a phone, or through another website that you are not face to face. The bully’s coward behind their computer screen and make other kids life so bad that they don't want to come to school or even take their own lives. As a result bully victims usually hide what is going on from everybody and are more likely to attempt suicide than non bully victims.
You
may say that time during the Cold War was more difficult than it is
now in 2012. People had to worry about the Russians dropping and
A-bomb or The Cuban crisis. If these things would have happened, it
would have been horrible but they never did and one life wasn't
taken. Things that are taking lives in 2012 are real and happening.
In conclusion, life in 2012 is harder and more stressful than it was during the Cold War. The Cuban missile crisis and threats of an A-bomb dropping would have been disastrous but they never happened. Cyber-bullying is a daily problem just like world debt. This is why time now in 2012 is worse than back during the Cold War.
